BROKEN BULB

A bulb of garlic, broken open to reveal each clove's pearly iridescence, is reflected through papery thin skin. The high contrast of background to foreground contributes to the drama and the play of the title, "Broken Bulb". What started as a monochromatic piece instead showed us that nothing is without color.

This still life is about complex forms that are created with shadow and light. Our usual color palette reflects the unexpected, however, with this ensemble piece we chose to stay true to nature. Each subject retains its subtle individuality while working as a group of ingredients (tomato,cilantro,onion,garlic,peppers,and lime) waiting to be made into a traditional salsa.
